Welcome to Vision 4 Children (The Littler Trust) |
|
Vision 4 Children is the only international charitable organisation with the solely working towards eliminating global childhood blindness and visual impairment and supporting parents and carers. Our work
- to develop and support an international web-based parent and child vision support and information group
- to reduce childhood blindness through sustainable outcome-based programmes of teaching and training
- to improve management of childhood blindness by effective clinical research in treatable and avoidable blinding eye diseases
We are working towards this vision by 'flying a kite for children's sight'. Come join us by supporting our work. Why we need to do this work Here are some facts - A child goes blind every minute.
- Currently, 1.4 million children are blind and the number is growing.
- Half of this blindness is preventable or treatable.
- The commonest cause of treatable childhood blindness is cataract.
- Worldwide, childhood blindness leads to 70 million blind person years.
- The worldwide economic impact of childhood blindness was estimated at £7 billion lost earnings in the year 2000
- This is predicted to rise to £16 billion by year 2020.
There is a need for change. We believe that change is possible. We need your help. We believe That no child should needlessly be blind and all children have a right to sight through work that helps them achieve the best vision possible and that all children with visual impairment have the right to education, support and encouragement to achieve their goals. |

Ken Littler The man and his vision |
|

Ken, on the right (wth his twin brother Gordon) , the man and his compassionate vision made the important and urgent work of Vision 4 Children (The Littler Trust) possible . Ken himself suffered from an eye condition; successfully treated for the relief of pain.
Ken and his close association with our Chair, Consultant Ophthalmologist Arvind Chandna led him and his brother Gordon to provide a generous bequest which made it possible for V4C to be set up. Ken saw at first hand, through Arvind's volunteer work, the enormous suffering caused by unnecessary treatable blindness encountered by children and families of children. He also saw that it was possible to fight a winning battle against the burden of global childhood blindness through practical sustainable programmes.
Ken was a painter and his landscapes were much admired. His quiet spoken attitude and gentleness of purpose was reflected in his paintings. His painting of 'Children on the Beach flying a kite' inspired us to choose the Kite as our logo: a symbol of aspiration, hope, universal recogntion and flying high in the world sky; all all the values we cherish at Vision 4 Children, the charity.
Sadly, Ken is no longer with us but his inspiring life and work continue to guide us in our work. You can support us in carrying out this important and urgent work by your generous donations.

Arvind says: "As an eye specialist I am concerned that 50% of the 1.4m million blind children in the world are needlessly blind and the numbers are growing. This is not good for our future. I have seen enormous suffering caused as a result of a blind child in the family and its effect on the community, especially when the blindness could have been prevented or treated. The economic impact of the lost years from unnecessary childhood blindness creates a cycle of poverty and poor health.
